Powder ombre brows use a shading technique rather than hair strokes. The result looks like a soft, filled-in brow — similar to brow powder or pomade applied by a professional, but permanent. The front of the brow is lighter, transitioning to slightly deeper pigment toward the tail.

This technique is ideal for clients who already fill in their brows and want that look permanently, those with oily or combination skin (pigment retains better than hair strokes on oilier skin types), and anyone who prefers a more defined, polished brow over a natural hair-stroke look.

Powder brows also have excellent retention and typically last longer than hair stroke techniques, making them a popular choice for clients who want the lowest maintenance option.

Combination brows blend two techniques in one appointment. The front of the brow is built with individual hair strokes for a soft, natural hairline, while the body and tail are filled in with powder shading for depth and definition.

This is the most popular technique at D'Atelier. It delivers the natural quality of hair strokes where it matters most — the front, where overdrawing is most obvious — with the dimensional depth of powder fill where you want structure.

Combination brows suit most skin types and have excellent retention. In the right hands, they are indistinguishable from natural brows.

Yes — but technique matters. Oily skin produces more sebum, which can break down hair stroke pigment faster and cause the strokes to blur or fade unevenly over time. This is particularly true with microblading.

Powder ombre brows and combination brows tend to heal and retain much better on oily skin because the shading technique sits differently in the skin than individual strokes. Nano brows are also a better option than traditional microblading for oily skin types.

Most clients describe the sensation as light scratching or pressure — not painful. A topical numbing cream is applied before the procedure begins and kept on for 20–30 minutes. Once numb, most clients are surprised by how comfortable the appointment is.

Sensitivity varies by individual, time of the month, and the treatment area. Lip blush tends to be more sensitive than brows. Eyeliner is very well-tolerated by most clients. If you are concerned about discomfort, mention it at your consultation — there are additional numbing options available.

In the week before your appointment, avoid alcohol, blood-thinning medications (aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil), retinol or AHA products near the treatment area, and excessive sun exposure. Do not tint or wax your brows for at least a week prior.

On the day of your appointment, arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the treatment area. Eat a full meal beforehand — blood sugar drops can increase sensitivity. Avoid coffee the morning of if you are prone to jitteriness.

Initial brow appointments (nano brows, microblading, powder brows, combination brows) typically take 2.5 to 3 hours, including the consultation, brow mapping, numbing, and the procedure itself. Lip blush appointments are similar in length. Eyeliner appointments are slightly shorter at 2 to 2.5 hours.

Touch-up appointments are shorter — usually 1.5 to 2 hours — since much of the design work has already been done.

Do not plan anything directly after your appointment where your appearance matters. There will be redness and some initial darkness that softens significantly over the following week.
